For generations, the Bashir family has shared a deep appreciation for fine handmade rugs. Bashir Persian Rugs, also known as Tapis d’Orient Bashir, brings that heritage to Montreal through an exceptional collection of hand-knotted Persian and Oriental rugs, professional rug services and decades of specialized knowledge.

The company was founded in Montreal in 1976 by Mr. Shuja Bashir, whose connection to the rug trade reaches back much further. His family had been established rug dealers since the early 1900s in his native Kashmir, where he grew up surrounded by every stage of the traditional rug-making process — from wool preparation, drawing and design to weaving, washing and the selection of finished carpets.

After living in Germany, Austria, Italy and Libya, Mr. Bashir eventually settled in Montreal. Recognizing the need for a showroom devoted to beautiful, high-quality wool and silk rugs at fair prices, he opened Bashir Persian Rugs.

Today, the business remains family-run, with Mr. Bashir working alongside his daughter, son and dedicated team.
